Tending the Cycle

A PMS & PMDD Intensive — EMDR + Somatic + Herbal Support

There is an older way of understanding the body's rhythm.

Before artificial light flattened the month into sameness, before productivity culture demanded we perform at the same register every day of our lives, people organized their lives around the cycle. The follicular phase mirrored spring. Ovulation was summer. The luteal phase moved toward autumn — a drawing inward. And menstruation was winter — a time of release and renewal, honored in many traditions as a portal to the inner world.

The wheel of the year, the seasons of the land, and the cycle of the body were once understood as the same thing at different scales. Something profound has been lost in the forgetting of that.

For those with PMDD — and for those with PMS significant enough to disrupt their lives — the luteal phase is not just uncomfortable. It can feel like a different self entirely: flooded, raw, without defense. That experience deserves more than symptom management. It deserves to be understood at the root.

This is what Tending the Cycle is for.

What Is PMDD?

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder is characterized by significant emotional and psychological symptoms in the luteal phase — the week or two before menstruation — that resolve once the period begins. It is distinct from PMS in the severity of its impact on daily functioning and relationships.

PMDD is real, it is recognized, and it is not a character flaw. It is also not simply a hormonal problem with a hormonal solution. This is where psychology, somatics, and nervous system work become essential.

The Lens This Work Uses

The luteal phase doesn't create what surfaces — it reveals it. What floods through in the days before your period is often material that lives in the nervous system year-round, held at bay during the regulated phases of the cycle and amplified when the window closes.

This intensive works with what the cycle is pointing toward — not just the symptoms, but what is underneath them. It combines:

  • Psychoeducation on the neuroscience and psychology of PMDD and the cycle

  • Somatic EMDR targeting the attachment and relational material underneath

  • Herbal ally recommendations to explore with your physician or naturopath

  • Cycle mapping and planning so you leave with tools for tending each phase

This offering is intentionally mapped onto your cycle.

Each session corresponds to a phase, so the work moves with your body's own rhythm.

Session 1 — Follicular Phase (55 minutes, phone or in person)

The opening. Spring.

Your intake session, held when the nervous system is most regulated and receptive. We build shared language, gather history, orient to the work ahead, and begin cycle tracking together. You will leave with a “Luteal Phase Wellness Guide” including herbal ally recommendations to explore with your physician or naturopath before your luteal cycle.

Session 2 — Ovulatory Phase (90 minutes, in person)

The fullness. Summer.

An extended session with two purposes: installing safe internal resources you can access during and after the intensive, and mapping the attachment material we will bring into the deep work. You arrive at your intensive with a reprocessing plan already in place.

Session 3 — Luteal Phase (30 minutes, phone only)

The turning. Autumn.

A brief grounding check-in before or as symptoms peak. An opportunity to observe what is arising with new eyes — as information — and orient toward the intensive ahead. If you were able to implement any herbal allies from your “Luteal Phase Wellness Guide” with the support of your physician or naturopath, we will also take time to notice whether anything has shifted — however subtly — in your symptom patterns this cycle.

Session 4 — Menstrual Phase (4 hours, in person)

The shedding. Winter.

The intensive itself. Four hours of somatic EMDR, held during menstruation so that the body's own release process and the psychological work move in the same direction. Plan to take the following day off if you are able.

A complimentary 10-minute grounding call is available any time you need it before your scheduled integration session.

Session 5 — Early Follicular Phase (55 minutes, phone or in person)

The return. The rising.

Integration, held as the nervous system begins to lift. What moved, what is different, cycle planning on how to tend the cycle going forward. We may also do a future template — orienting your nervous system toward who you are becoming on the other side of this work.

Is This Right for You?

This offering may be a good fit if you:

  • Experience significant mood disruption in the week or two before your period that resolves once menstruation begins

  • Feel like a different person in the luteal phase — flooded, without access to your regulated self

  • Have tried hormonal or other medical approaches and want to address the psychological and nervous system layer

  • Are curious about the connection between your cycle and your history

  • Feel drawn to a holistic, body-centered, and spiritually open approach to healing

This offering is not a substitute for medical care. I work alongside your existing providers, not instead of them.

A note on diagnosis: If you would like a formal PMDD diagnosis from me, we begin the required cycle tracking together in your first session or you may bring cycle data to your first session that includes mood tracking. See the FAQs below for more on billing and HSA/FSA reimbursement.

You are worth investing in, and that journey starts here.

How Booking Works

Every intensive begins with a free consultation call. Because this intensive is mapped onto your cycle, we will also use that call to orient to your cycle timing and identify the right entry point.

If we decide to move forward, a non-refundable deposit of $462 is collected to secure your first two sessions. The remaining balance is due before the intensive.

After your second preparation session, the remaining balance is due in full before we proceed to the intensive.

If, during our preparation sessions, I determine clinically that you aren't quite ready for intensive processing, we will pause, cancel the intensive without additional charge, and talk honestly about what would serve you better — most likely beginning with regular therapy first, with the option to return to an intensive when the time is right.

Is This Right for You?

This offering is best suited for adults who:

  • Have a menstrual cycle and experience PMS or PMDD symptoms

  • Are not currently in acute psychiatric crisis

  • Are ready to commit to the full container across one complete cycle

  • Feel drawn to a body-centered, holistically informed approach to healing
