Reclaim Your Body as Home | Pain Reprocessing Therapy

Your body holds profound wisdom—including the capacity to heal from chronic pain that may no longer serve your highest good. Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) offers a revolutionary pathway to understanding and transforming persistent pain by working directly with your nervous system's learned patterns. As a trained PRT practitioner, I'm honored to offer this evidence-based approach as part of our healing journey together.

What is Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT)?

Pain Reprocessing Therapy recognizes that much chronic pain originates not from ongoing tissue damage, but from neural pathways that have learned to create real pain signals known as neuroplastic pain. This evidence-based approach helps your nervous system unlearn these patterns, allowing your body to return to its natural state of ease.

Unlike approaches that focus on managing pain, PRT addresses the root neural mechanisms that generate pain experiences. Through gentle awareness practices and nervous system education, PRT honors your body's innate intelligence while helping it release outdated protective patterns.

This approach beautifully complements somatic therapy, recognizing that healing happens through the body's wisdom. PRT invites a compassionate dialogue between your conscious awareness and your nervous system's protective responses.

What to Expect in Our PRT Journey

Our Pain Reprocessing Therapy work will unfold with deep reverence for your body's timing and needs:

Understanding Your Pain Story: We'll explore your unique pain experience with curiosity and compassion, understanding how your nervous system learned these protective patterns. This honors your body's journey while opening new possibilities for healing.

Nervous System Education: Together, we'll demystify how your brain creates pain experiences. This knowledge becomes a powerful tool for transformation, helping you understand that pain doesn't always equal danger or damage.

Somatic Awareness Practices: Using gentle body-based techniques, we'll help your nervous system recognize safety in the present moment. These practices honor your body's wisdom while teaching new ways of relating to physical sensations.

Pain Reprocessing Sessions: Through mindful attention and nervous system regulation, we'll work with your pain experiences as they arise. This creates spacious awareness where your body can remember its capacity for comfort and ease.

Integration: As your nervous system learns new patterns, you may notice shifts in how you experience your body. We'll support this integration with continued somatic work, ensuring these changes become woven into your daily embodied experience.

Throughout this process, your body's intelligence guides our work. We move at a pace that honors your nervous system's capacity, always prioritizing safety and presence.

Combining PRT with Somatic Holistic Healing

Pain Reprocessing Therapy naturally weaves together with the somatic, trauma-informed, Jungian, and humanistic approaches in our work. Your pain experience often carries deeper wisdom about your life patterns, relationships, and soul's journey toward wholeness.

This integrative approach recognizes that chronic pain rarely exists in isolation. By addressing pain through multiple lenses—body, psyche, emotions, and spirit when appropriate—PRT becomes part of a larger healing tapestry that honors your complete being.

Is Pain Reprocessing Therapy Right for Your Journey?

PRT can be particularly transformative for:

  • Primary pain (i.e. chronic back or neck pain, IBS, fibromyalgia, chronic headaches, pelvic pain, complex regional pain syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, etc.)

  • Chronic pain conditions where medical tests show minimal or healed structural damage

  • Pain for which traditional medicine has no answers or treatment

  • Pain that seems disproportionate to physical findings or lasts past a normal recovery period

  • Pain that varies significantly with stress, emotions, weather, or life circumstances

  • Pain with no initial injury, or that began during an emotional trauma or high stress time period

  • Anyone seeking to understand the mind-body connection in their pain experience

PRT techniques can still help reduce pain from, but not eliminate:

  • Secondary pain (i.e. arthritis, diabetic neuropathy, nerve damage, post surgical pain, visceral pain, degeneration, celiac) that may have become mixed with primary pain over time. We can treat the neuroplastic element, which can reduce mixed types of pain.

  • Pain that feels disproportionately louder than the structural damage warrants

In our initial sessions, we'll explore together whether PRT might serve your unique healing path. As with all approaches, I trust your inner knowing about what feels right for your journey toward wholeness.
